We hear it all the time:

  • “I don’t need a payroll service. I only have myself and another employee.”
  • “I can do my own payroll. I can buy the software at any office supply store and I’ll be all set.”
  • “$24.00 a week? I can do it for free!”

Fact: Especially if it is just you and another employee or two, you need our service. Both state and federal withholding tax guidelines can change overnight. We stay up-to-date on the changes and keep you compliant with the state and feds. We specialize in small business. You are never too small for the full attention of Global Payroll Solutions.

Fact: “I can purchase payroll software from one of the office superstores.” You surely can, but what about:

  • Keeping up with the changes in the withholding laws and guidelines?
  • How long will this software be viable?
  • How will you know when to actually make the necessary changes in withholding?

Fact: You can do it for free? We don’t think so. Assume you are paying yourself or someone else $15.00/hour (actually it’s $16.66/hour with your portion of the taxes). Let’s look at what doing it for “free” really costs over just one quarter (13 weeks).

  • Calculating, preparing checks, preparing the earnings records and recording the info into your payroll journal.
    $16.66 x 13 weeks = $216.58
  • Total the state and federal withholding from the records. Calculate the amount due, fill out the proper forms. They’re due on the 15th of the month.
    1/2 hour each month = 1.5 hours ($24.99) + 1.11 postage = $26.10
  • Three trips to the bank (and get there before 2PM) to make the tax deposits on the 15th of the month.
    1/2 hour each trip + $1.00 gas each trip = $27.99
  • The last week of the quarter, total all employee earnings, make certain that they add up correctly. Correct any errors. Prepare Form 941 and pay any additional tax due or apply for a refund. Reconcile state withholding for the quarter with the amount actually paid. Calculate state unemployment and fill out form. Calculate federal unemployment and fill out two forms. Fill out your WR-1. Take your FUTA deposit to the bank.
    3.5 hours of paperwork + 1/2 hour trip to bank ($8.15) + $1.00 gas = $67.64
  • Four stamps to send in your forms = $1.48

Guess what? “Free” actually cost you $339.79 for just one quarter! By giving Global Payroll Solutions the privilege of handling your payroll you’ll save money — we can do what you did for $312.00. It also allows you to be more productive. If you can earn $45.00 per hour, actually spending 20 hours to do payroll means you were not able to bill $900.00 in services.

Now what did that “Free” payroll cost you? If you really wanted to do payroll, wouldn’t you have been a payroll clerk? Additionally, by letting Global Payroll Solutions do your payroll you are freed up to do what it is you do best — tending to growing your operation.
